The HPBA Expo in Salt Lake City was down in both exhibitors and attendees from previous shows. The outdoor booth area required a bus ride to get to it and the weather was not totally cooperative – thankfully we were all indoors. Rasmussen Gas Logs do turn up in all kinds of interesting places.
In her recent performance of the hit "What’s My Name," at the 2011 Grammy Awards last February 16, world-famous R&B artist Rihanna used a dozen of the Rasmussen fireproof logs, ranging in size from 54 to 60 inches in length.
During the breathtaking scene, in which Rihanna collaborated with another popular artist, Drake, the Rasmussen gas logs were placed together to form an enormous bonfire in the middle of the stage, setting the mood for the tribal beat and high energy of the song.
As effortless as the performance was, it was no easy task to put it together. In the initial meeting, where the idea of using fire onstage was introduced, several problems arose.
It is no secret that using real logs on stage would be difficult, if not impossible, because of the unreliability of fire and the very real possibility of it getting out of control. After thorough research, using real flaming gas logs as props was determined to be doable.
Then another issue surfaced: where to find 5-foot tall gas logs.
After several weeks of looking, Rihanna’s team came across Rasmussen and quickly and easily found what they were looking for. A dozen logs were quickly sent out for Rihanna's Grammy performance. The three-time Grammy winner’s vision of her incredible performance had finally materialized.
Rasmussen Iron Works was established in Whittier California in 1907. Through the decades the business has evolved and changed and have made everything from steel buildings, truck body parts and welding rod handles used to build ships for WWII to the gas logs and infrared grills that they are known for today.
